Local Love Friday featuring BNA

Nov 09, 2016

Because tomorrow is Remembrance Day we are doing our “Friday Feature” a day early! This week we are profiling BNA or The “British North American”. The building where BNA now resides, hosted the British North American Tobacco Company who brought the tobacco industry to the Okanagan Valley in the early 1900s. It then was home to a host of canners and various tenants in the years following but sat largely empty from 1960 onward.

Enter BNA owners Kyle and Carolyn Nixon who have now turned their own dream into reality by creating a new chapter in this storied building’s life with BNA. A lively public house offering the best locally sourced comfort food, carefully crafted beer and unique custom cocktails, that has quickly become a favorite among tourists and locals alike.

Winners of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce 2016 “Rising Star Award” the husband and wife duo were gracious enough to take some time out of their busy schedule to give us the inside scoop on their company,  local love, & life in the Okanagan.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
We're both born and raised in Kelowna

 What does your business do?
We strive to provide the best hospitality experience possible and brew memorable beers.

How long have you been in operation?
We opened June 2015

Why did you get into/start your business?
We both grew up in the business. Both went to school but when it was all said and done, we liked our day job better. When the opportunity knocked, we didn't look back

What’s YOUR favorite local store and restaurant in Kelowna?
There are almost too many to name but we definitely make the effort to go local when we’re in the market for something. We always love to spoil ourselves at Raudz but grew up drinking at Sturgeon Hall.

Why is it important to shop local?
Supporting local makes it possible for people to live in Kelowna AND do what they love. We see both as a privilege but together, it’s a dream. Attracting local businesses keeps our community dynamic and diverse.

What is so special about the Okanagan/Kelowna?!
You get all the perfect amount of all four seasons.

Walking Distance to The Stockwell : 10 minutes.
